We spent 4 days as part of a (overfed) marriage party in small town Gujarat. Navsari is a quaint mix of new and old, and luckily for me we were staying in the older part of town, narrow dust lanes, high walls, brick tiles roofs, stained glass and old architecture. We were really busy all the time, and I didn’t really think I’d get any time to sketch. But all this was so irresistible! Luckily I was carrying a tiny 5×5 inch blank notepad that I’d just been gifted, in my handbag. And I managed to make a few very quick sketches. This is also the first time I did so much sketching in public. If I was more comfortable, I’d have gotten a lot more, but well, here they are, for what it’s worth. Most of the color was added afterward from memory or photographs.
This one of course has nothing to do with Navsari, it’s a self-portrait done days before, when i was just trying out my pens on the paper in the diary. Not much of a likeness, at least, I don’t think so. Then again, maybe it is
