India Art Festival 2012

I’m at the India Art Festival 2012, Mumbai at MMRDA grounds, Bandra-Kurla complex, and it’s been an awesome experience so far. There are some 500 artist’s work on display here and that makes over 3000 art pieces, paintings and sculpture. India Art Festival Niloufer WadiaMine is just a verrrry tiny corner, but apart from it being an exhilarating experience just to participate, it’s being here all the time – 9 hours over 5 days, that allows me to go around, spend unfettered time over the art, take a break, go round again. A huge advantage over just being a visitor. Pieces of work have grown on me; art I didn’t think I liked at all has started to interest, and I’ve discovered that I’m beginning to like impressionistic abstract (is that even a term?) very much.
I’m also very impressed to see the hordes that have obviously not come to buy but have come right out of their way (in Mumbai everything seems out of the way, considering how much time you need to travel) just to admire art. In fact, the only thing missing is direct interaction with schools and their students. I’ve been fascinated to see how involved young children get with art abroad. It’s all about training I guess.
For those who couldn’t make it, here are some more photographs. Enjoy!
